Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat, stable surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Ensure the engine is off and the keys are removed from the ignition.
2. Lift and Secure the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front or rear of the vehicle, depending on which struts are being replaced.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands to ensure stability and safety.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Using a lug wrench, loosen and remove the lug nuts.
  • Take off the wheel to gain access to the strut assembly.
4. Disconnect the Strut
  • Front Struts:

    1. Remove the brake line bracket from the strut (if applicable).
    2. Disconnect the sway bar link from the strut.
    3. Remove the lower strut bolts using a socket and ratchet.
    4. Open the hood and remove the strut top mounting nuts while supporting the strut from below.
    5. Carefully pull the strut assembly out from the vehicle.
  • Rear Struts:

    1. Remove any necessary components obstructing access, such as the rear wheel well liner.
    2. Remove the bolts securing the lower end of the strut to the lower control arm.
    3. Take out the strut top mounting nuts from the trunk or interior side.
    4. Pull the strut assembly out from the vehicle.
5. Install New Strut
  • Position the new strut into place and secure it using the original top mounting nuts and lower bolts.
  • Ensure all connections, such as the sway bar link and brake line bracket, are reattached properly.
6. Reassemble and Lower the Vehicle
  • Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
  • Tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specified torque (usually around 76 ft-lbs for most Toyota models).
