Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical issues.
2. Remove the Steering Rack
  • Tools Required: Socket set, wrench set, steering wheel puller, jack stands.
  • Lift the front of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels for better access to the steering components.
  • Detach any components obstructing access to the steering rack (e.g., exhaust components, sway bar).
  • Disconnect the tie rods from the steering rack using a tie rod separator.
  • Remove the bolts securing the steering rack to the frame and carefully slide the rack out.
3. Install the New Steering Rack
  • Tools Required: Same as above, plus torque wrench.
  • Position the new steering rack in place and secure it with the previously removed bolts, ensuring it is torqued to manufacturer specifications.
  • Reconnect the tie rods to the steering rack and tighten to specification.
  • Reinstall any components that were removed for access.
4. Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Fill the power steering reservoir with manufacturer-recommended fluid.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to eliminate air in the system, topping off fluid as necessary.
