Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather Tools and Parts:
    • Tools Required: Screwdriver set, ratchet and socket set, throttle body cleaner, clean rags, small brush (like a toothbrush), safety goggles, gloves.
    • Parts Required: Throttle body gasket (if needed).
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Disconnect the battery before working on electrical systems.
    • Allow the engine to cool before starting the cleaning process.
2. Remove the Throttle Body
  • Step 1: Disconnect the negative battery terminal using a wrench.
  • Step 2: Remove the air intake duct by loosening the clamps and lifting it off the throttle body.
  • Step 3: Disconnect the electrical connectors from the throttle position sensor and any other sensors attached to the throttle body.
  • Step 4: Unscrew the throttle body mounting bolts using the appropriate socket size.
  • Step 5: Carefully pull the throttle body away from the intake manifold, ensuring the gasket remains intact or is removed for replacement.
3. Clean the Throttle Body
  • Step 1: Spray throttle body cleaner onto the inside of the throttle body.
  • Step 2: Use a small brush to gently scrub the throttle plate and the walls of the throttle body to remove carbon deposits.
  • Step 3: Wipe the throttle body clean with a rag, ensuring no residue is left.
  • Step 4: If applicable, clean the throttle position sensor carefully without damaging it.
4. Reinstall the Throttle Body
  • Step 1: Place a new throttle body gasket onto the intake manifold (if applicable).
  • Step 2: Align the throttle body to the intake manifold and secure it with the mounting bolts. Torque the bolts to manufacturer specifications (typically around 89 in-lbs).
  • Step 3: Reconnect the electrical connectors to the throttle position sensor and any other sensors.
  • Step 4: Reattach the air intake duct, ensuring all clamps are secured tightly.
  • Step 5: Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
