Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools: jack, jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, and a pry bar.
  • Ensure vehicle is parked on a level surface and the ignition is off.
  • Wear safety gloves and goggles.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front or rear of the vehicle, depending on which shocks or struts are being replaced.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands to prevent it from falling.
3. Remove the Old Shocks/Struts
  • Front Shocks/Struts:

    1. Remove the wheel using a socket set.
    2. Disconnect the stabilizer bar link if applicable.
    3. Remove bolts securing the strut assembly to the steering knuckle.
    4. Disconnect the top mounting bolts from the strut tower under the hood.
    5. Carefully remove the strut assembly from the vehicle.
  • Rear Shocks/Struts:

    1. Remove the rear wheel using a socket set.
    2. Locate the upper and lower mounting bolts for the shock.
    3. Remove the lower bolt first, then the upper bolt.
    4. Pull the shock away from the mounting points and remove it from the vehicle.
4. Install New Shocks/Struts
  • Front Shocks/Struts:

    1. Position the new strut assembly in place of the old one.
    2. Secure the top mounting bolts to the strut tower and torque to manufacturer specifications.
    3. Reattach the lower bolts to the steering knuckle and torque them appropriately.
    4. Reconnect the stabilizer bar link if applicable.
  • Rear Shocks/Struts:

    1. Position the new shock in place, aligning it with the mounting points.
    2. Install the lower mounting bolt and torque to specifications.
    3. Install the upper mounting bolt and torque to specifications.
5. Reassemble and Lower the Vehicle
  • Replace the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Repeat for the other side if necessary.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands using the jack.
  • Tighten the lug nuts to the recommended torque specification.
