Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts:
    • Tools Required: Socket set (10mm and 12mm sockets), torque wrench, spark plug socket, ratchet, extension bar, compressed air (optional), and dielectric grease.
    • Parts Required: New spark plugs (ensure they are the correct specifications), new gaskets for the ignition coils (if applicable).
2. Remove Ignition Coils
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shock.
  • Remove the engine cover if installed.
  • Unplug the electrical connectors from each ignition coil.
  • Unscrew the bolts securing the ignition coils using a 10mm socket.
  • Gently pull out each ignition coil from the spark plug well.
3. Remove Old Spark Plugs
  • Use compressed air to blow out any debris from the spark plug wells to prevent contamination.
  • Insert the spark plug socket onto the first spark plug and turn counterclockwise to remove it.
  • Repeat for all spark plugs.
4. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Check the gap on the new spark plugs using a feeler gauge and adjust if necessary according to specifications (typically around 0.044 inches for Toyota).
  • Apply a small amount of anti-seize lubricant to the threads of each new spark plug (optional).
  • Hand-tighten each spark plug into the cylinder head and then use a torque wrench to tighten to the manufacturer’s specified torque (typically around 13 lb-ft).
5. Reinstall Ignition Coils
  • Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the inside of the ignition coil boot.
  • Reinsert each ignition coil into its respective spark plug well and secure with bolts.
  • Reconnect the electrical connectors to each ignition coil.
6. Reattach Engine Cover
  • If applicable, reattach the engine cover and secure it with bolts.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
