Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, spark plug socket, extension bar, anti-seize lubricant, dielectric grease, compressed air.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Remove Engine Cover
  • Locate the engine cover and remove any fasteners holding it in place.
  • Carefully lift off the engine cover and set it aside.
3. Access Spark Plugs
  • Identify the ignition coil assembly above each spark plug.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from each ignition coil by pressing the release tab and pulling it off.
  • Remove the bolts securing each ignition coil using a socket wrench.
4. Remove Spark Plugs
  • Use a compressed air canister to blow away any debris around the spark plugs to prevent contaminants from entering the combustion chamber.
  • Insert the spark plug socket onto the first spark plug and turn counterclockwise to remove it.
  • Repeat for all cylinders.
5. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Apply a small amount of anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the new spark plugs.
  • Check the spark plug gap with a feeler gauge and adjust if necessary.
  • Carefully thread the new spark plug into the cylinder head by hand to avoid cross-threading.
  • Use the torque wrench to tighten the spark plugs to the manufacturer's specification (typically 13 lb-ft for Toyota).
6. Reassemble
  • Reinstall the ignition coils over the new spark plugs and secure them with bolts.
  • Reconnect the electrical connectors to the ignition coils.
  • Replace the engine cover and secure it with the fasteners.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
