Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, spark plug socket, extension bar, anti-seize compound, dielectric grease.
  • Ensure the engine is cool to prevent burns.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shocks.
2. Remove Engine Cover (if applicable)
  • Locate and remove any bolts or screws securing the engine cover.
  • Gently lift off the cover and set it aside.
3. Remove Spark Plug Wires/Coils
  • For vehicles with individual ignition coils, carefully disconnect the electrical connector from each ignition coil.
  • Remove the bolts securing the ignition coils using a socket wrench.
  • Gently pull the coils out of the spark plug wells and set them aside.
4. Remove Old Spark Plugs
  • Use a spark plug socket and extension to remove each spark plug by turning counterclockwise.
  • Carefully extract each spark plug, noting their condition for reference.
5. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Apply a small amount of anti-seize compound to the threads of the new spark plugs.
  • Set the correct gap on the spark plugs (check specifications) using a gap tool.
  • Install each spark plug by hand to avoid cross-threading, then tighten with a torque wrench to the manufacturer's specified torque (usually around 13-16 lb-ft for Toyota).
6. Reinstall Ignition Coils/Spark Plug Wires
  • Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the inside of the ignition coil boots.
  • Reinsert the ignition coils, securing them with bolts and reconnecting the electrical connectors.
  • If applicable, reconnect the spark plug wires to their respective plugs.
7. Reattach Engine Cover
  • Place the engine cover back on and secure it with bolts or screws.
8. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Start the engine and allow it to idle, checking for any irregularities.
