my Toyota Camry XV70 (2018-2024) has a check engine light and code P0700

Solution

1. Preparation

• Gather necessary tools and parts.
• Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is cool.
• Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

2. Inspect Transmission Fluid

• Remove the transmission dipstick and check fluid level.
• If low, add the correct type of transmission fluid (refer to owner’s manual).
• If the fluid is dark or smells burnt, a transmission fluid change may be necessary.

3. Check and Repair Wiring

• Inspect the wiring harness connected to the TCM for frays or corrosion.
• Repair or replace any damaged wiring or connectors.
• Ensure all connections are secure.

4. Replace TCM (if necessary)

• If the TCM is faulty, remove it:
  • Disconnect the electrical connectors from the TCM.
  • Remove the mounting bolts holding the TCM in place.
• Install the new TCM:
  • Position the new TCM and secure it with mounting bolts to the specified torque (refer to service manual).
  • Reconnect the electrical connectors.

5. Refill Transmission Fluid

• If any fluid was lost during repairs, refill the transmission fluid to the proper level.
