Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set
    • Pliers
    • Fuel line disconnect tool (if applicable)
    • Shop towels
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the engine is off.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Relieve Fuel System Pressure
  • Locate the fuel pump relay in the fuse box.
  • Start the engine and remove the relay, allowing the engine to stall. This relieves pressure in the fuel lines.
  • Open the fuel filler cap to further release pressure.
3. Remove the Fuel Filter
  • Locate the fuel filter; it is usually situated along the fuel line under the vehicle or near the engine.
  • Use pliers or a fuel line disconnect tool to detach the fuel lines from the filter. Be cautious of any remaining fuel.
  • Remove the mounting bolts or clamps securing the filter in place using a socket set.
4. Install the New Fuel Filter
  • Position the new fuel filter in the correct orientation (check for the flow direction marked on the filter).
  • Secure the filter with the mounting bolts or clamps.
  • Reconnect the fuel lines, ensuring they are firmly seated and locked into place.
5. Restore Fuel System Pressure
  • Reinsert the fuel pump relay back into the fuse box.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position (do not start) for a few seconds to prime the fuel system. Repeat this step a couple of times.
6. Check for Leaks
  • Start the engine and inspect the fuel filter and lines for leaks.
  • If leaks are detected, turn off the engine and tighten connections as necessary.
