Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety.
  • Relieve fuel system pressure by removing the fuel pump relay and starting the engine until it stalls.
2. Remove Fuel Tank
  • Tools Required: Socket set, fuel line disconnect tool, jack and jack stands, safety goggles, gloves.
  • Support the fuel tank with a jack and remove the tank straps using a socket set.
  • Disconnect the fuel filler neck and any electrical connectors leading to the fuel pump.
  • Carefully lower the fuel tank.
3. Remove Fuel Pump Assembly
  • Safety Warning: Ensure the area is well-ventilated to avoid inhaling fuel vapors.
  • Remove the retaining ring securing the fuel pump assembly to the tank using a fuel line disconnect tool.
  • Carefully lift the fuel pump assembly out of the tank, taking care not to damage the float arm.
4. Install New Fuel Pump
  • Remove the old fuel pump from the assembly and replace it with the new pump, ensuring all seals and O-rings are properly positioned.
  • Reinstall the fuel pump assembly into the tank, securing it with the retaining ring.
  • Reconnect the electrical connectors and fuel lines.
5. Reinstall Fuel Tank
  • Raise the fuel tank back into position and reconnect the fuel filler neck.
  • Reattach the tank straps and tighten them to the specified torque.
  • Reconnect the fuel pump relay.
6. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position a few times to prime the fuel system, and check for leaks around the fuel lines and pump assembly.
