Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set (including 10mm and 16mm sockets)
    • Torque wrench
    • Spark plug socket (with rubber insert)
    • Ratchet and extensions
    • Gap gauge
    • Anti-seize compound
  • Parts Required:
    • 4 new spark plugs (specific type for the Toyota Camry)
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Disconnect the battery before starting work to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Remove Engine Cover
  • Sub-steps:
    • Use a socket wrench to remove the bolts securing the engine cover.
    • Carefully lift off the cover and set it aside.
3. Access Spark Plugs
  • Sub-steps:
    • Locate the ignition coils on top of the engine.
    • Disconnect the electrical connectors from each ignition coil by pressing the tab and pulling them off.
    • Remove the bolts securing the ignition coils using a socket wrench.
    • Pull each ignition coil out gently to expose the spark plugs.
4. Remove Old Spark Plugs
  • Sub-steps:
    • Use a spark plug socket and ratchet to unscrew each spark plug from the cylinder head.
    • Carefully lift the old spark plugs out and inspect them for wear.
5. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Sub-steps:
    • Check the gap on the new spark plugs using a gap gauge; adjust as necessary to the manufacturer's specification.
    • Apply a small amount of anti-seize compound to the threads of each new spark plug.
    • Hand-thread each spark plug into the cylinder head to avoid cross-threading.
    • Use a torque wrench to tighten each spark plug to the specified torque (typically around 13-15 lb-ft).
6. Reinstall Ignition Coils and Engine Cover
  • Sub-steps:
    • Reinsert each ignition coil into its respective socket.
    • Secure each ignition coil with its bolt and reconnect the electrical connectors.
    • Replace the engine cover and secure it with bolts.
7. Reconnect Battery and Test Engine
  • Reconnect the battery terminal.
  • Start the engine and check for smooth operation and absence of misfires.
