Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and materials:
    • Socket set
    • Torque wrench
    • Transmission fluid
    • Drain pan
    • New gasket (if applicable)
    • Sealant (if applicable)
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
  • Disconnect the battery before starting work.
2. Drain Transmission Fluid
  • Place a drain pan under the transmission pan.
  • Remove the transmission pan bolts using a socket wrench.
  • Carefully lower the pan and allow the old fluid to drain into the pan completely.
  • Clean the pan and magnet from any debris.
3. Inspect and Replace Gasket/Seals
  • Remove the old gasket from the pan and the transmission surface.
  • If the leak is due to a damaged gasket, install a new gasket. Ensure it is properly aligned.
  • If seals are leaking, remove the old seals using a seal puller and install new seals.
    • Apply a small amount of transmission fluid to the new seals to aid installation.
4. Reassemble Transmission Pan
  • Place the transmission pan back onto the transmission.
  • Hand-tighten the bolts and then torque them to the manufacturer's specifications (usually around 10-12 ft-lbs).
  • Ensure the pan is snug but avoid over-torquing as it can warp the pan.
5. Refill Transmission Fluid
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Pour the new transmission fluid into the dipstick tube using a funnel.
  • Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes.
  • Check the fluid level with the dipstick and add more fluid if necessary.
