Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Spark plug socket, ratchet wrench, torque wrench, extension bar, dielectric grease, anti-seize compound, vacuum cleaner or compressed air.
  • Parts Required: New spark plugs (OEM recommended), possibly new ignition coil packs (if applicable).
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal using a wrench.
  • Clear the area around the engine bay to ensure a safe working environment.
2. Remove Ignition Coils
  • Remove the ignition coil cover, if present.
  • Unplug the electrical connector from each ignition coil.
  • Using a ratchet and the appropriate socket, remove the bolt securing each ignition coil.
  • Carefully pull out each ignition coil from its respective spark plug hole.
3. Remove Old Spark Plugs
  • Use a spark plug socket attached to the ratchet to loosen and remove the old spark plugs. Turn counterclockwise until they are free.
  • Vacuum or blow out any debris from the spark plug wells to prevent contamination.
4. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Apply a small amount of anti-seize compound to the threads of the new spark plugs (if applicable).
  • Using the spark plug socket, hand-tighten the new spark plugs into their respective holes, then use a torque wrench to tighten them to the manufacturer’s specified torque (typically around 13-15 lb-ft for Camry).
  • Apply dielectric grease to the inside of the ignition coil boots.
5. Reinstall Ignition Coils
  • Insert each ignition coil back into place over the new spark plugs.
  • Secure each ignition coil with its bolt and reconnect the electrical connectors.
  • Replace the ignition coil cover.
6. Final Steps
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Start the engine to ensure it runs smoothly and check for any misfires or issues.
