Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, jack and jack stands, lug wrench, C-clamp or brake tool, brake cleaner, clean rags, safety goggles, gloves.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the front or rear wheels slightly while the vehicle is still on the ground.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and place jack stands securely under the vehicle.
  • Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheels.
3. Remove Brake Components
  • Locate the brake caliper and remove the bolts holding it in place using a socket wrench.
  • Carefully slide the caliper off the brake rotor, ensuring not to stretch or damage the brake line.
  • Secure the caliper to the suspension using a bungee cord or a suitable method to prevent strain on the brake line.
4. Remove Old Brake Pads
  • Slide the old brake pads out of the caliper bracket.
  • Inspect the caliper bracket and clean it if necessary using brake cleaner and a clean rag.
5. Install New Brake Pads
  • Compare the new brake pads with the old ones to ensure they are the correct size.
  • Apply a thin layer of brake grease to the back of the new brake pads to prevent squeaking.
  • Slide the new brake pads into the caliper bracket.
6. Reassemble Brake Components
  • Use a C-clamp or brake tool to compress the caliper piston back into the caliper housing to accommodate the new pads.
  • Reposition the caliper over the new brake pads and secure it by tightening the caliper bolts to the manufacturer's torque specifications (usually around 25-35 ft-lbs).
7. Reinstall Wheels
  • Place the wheel back on the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and fully tighten the lug nuts in a crisscross pattern to the specified torque (typically 76-80 ft-lbs).
