Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts. Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shock.
  • Relieve fuel system pressure by removing the fuel filler cap and using the fuel pump relay to start the engine until it stalls.
2. Access the Fuel Pump
  • Remove the rear seat cushion by pulling up on the front edge to release the clips.
  • Remove the access cover for the fuel pump located under the rear seat.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel pump module.
3. Remove the Fuel Pump Module
  • Carefully disconnect the fuel lines from the pump module using a fuel line disconnect tool if necessary.
  • Unscrew the retaining ring securing the fuel pump module to the tank. Use a mallet and a drift punch if it's tight.
  • Lift out the fuel pump module from the tank, taking care not to damage the O-ring seal.
4. Install New Fuel Pump
  • Install the new fuel pump into the module, ensuring it is properly seated.
  • Replace the O-ring seal if provided with the new pump.
  • Reinstall the fuel pump module into the tank, securing it with the retaining ring.
  • Reconnect the fuel lines and electrical connector.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the access cover and rear seat cushion.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Turn the ignition to the "ON" position without starting the engine to prime the fuel system, then check for leaks.
  • Start the engine and monitor for proper operation.
