Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, strut spring compressor, safety glasses, gloves.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels slightly while the vehicle is still on the ground.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use the jack to lift the front of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels completely by taking off the lug nuts.
3. Remove the Strut Assembly
  • Locate the strut mounting bolts at the top and bottom of the strut assembly.
  • Using the socket set, remove the top strut mounting nuts while supporting the strut assembly with one hand.
  • Remove the lower strut bolts by using the socket set to detach the strut from the steering knuckle.
4. Compress the Spring
  • Place the strut assembly in a strut spring compressor.
  • Follow the manufacturer's instructions to compress the spring safely and evenly to avoid injury.
  • Once compressed, remove the top nut securing the strut mount using the socket set.
5. Replace Components
  • Carefully remove the strut mount and any other worn components (like the bump stop or dust cover) from the old strut.
  • Install these components onto the new strut.
  • Reassemble the strut assembly by placing the spring back onto the new strut and securing it with the top nut.
6. Reinstall the Strut Assembly
  • Position the new strut assembly back into the vehicle.
  • Attach the lower strut bolts to the steering knuckle and torque them to the manufacturer specifications (check the service manual for specific torque values).
  • Reattach the top strut mounting nuts and tighten securely.
7. Reassemble the Suspension
  • Reinstall the front wheels and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground and then torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications.
8. Final Checks
  • Inspect all connections and ensure everything is securely tightened.
  • Remove the spring compressor and double-check the strut assembly for correct installation.
