Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Oil filter wrench
    • Socket set
    • Oil catch pan
    • Funnel
    • Clean rags
    • Torque wrench (for the drain plug)
  • Parts Required:
    • New oil filter
    • New engine oil (check owner’s manual for specifications)
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off and cool.
2. Remove Oil Drain Plug
  • Place the oil catch pan under the oil drain plug located at the bottom of the oil pan.
  • Use a socket wrench to remove the drain plug.
  • Allow the old oil to drain completely into the pan. This may take a few minutes.
3. Replace Oil Filter
  • Locate the oil filter; it is usually on the lower part of the engine block.
  • Use an oil filter wrench to loosen and remove the old oil filter. Be cautious as some old oil may still be inside the filter.
  • Before installing the new filter, apply a small amount of new oil to the rubber gasket on the new oil filter. This helps create a better seal.
  • Install the new oil filter by hand, tightening it until snug. Do not over-tighten.
4. Reinstall Oil Drain Plug
  • Once the oil has drained completely, reinstall the oil drain plug and tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque (typically around 27 lb-ft).
  • Make sure the drain plug is secure and not leaking.
5. Add New Oil
  • Using a funnel, pour the new engine oil into the oil filler cap located on top of the engine.
  • Refer to the owner’s manual for the correct amount and type of oil (usually around 4.5 to 5 quarts).
  • After adding oil, check the dipstick to ensure the oil level is within the acceptable range.
6. Start Engine and Check for Leaks
  • Start the engine and allow it to run for a minute to circulate the new oil.
  • Check under the vehicle for any leaks around the oil filter and drain plug.
  • Turn off the engine and recheck the oil level, adding more oil if necessary.
