Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, C-clamp or brake caliper tool, torque wrench, brake cleaner, and rags.
  • Lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it on jack stands.
  • Remove the wheel using a lug wrench.
2. Remove Brake Caliper
  • Loosen and remove the caliper mounting bolts using a socket wrench.
  • Carefully slide the caliper off the brake rotor; support it with a bungee cord or rope to avoid straining the brake line.
3. Remove Old Brake Pads
  • Identify the retaining clips or pins holding the brake pads in place and remove them if necessary.
  • Slide out the old brake pads from the caliper bracket and note their orientation for installation of the new pads.
4. Install New Brake Pads
  • Apply a thin layer of brake grease on the back of the new pads to reduce noise.
  • Position the new brake pads into the caliper bracket in the same orientation as the old pads.
5. Reinstall Brake Caliper
  • Use a C-clamp or brake caliper tool to compress the caliper piston back into the caliper housing.
  • Slide the caliper back over the new brake pads and align it with the mounting bracket.
  • Reinstall and tighten the caliper mounting bolts to the manufacturer's torque specifications (usually around 79 ft-lbs).
6. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications (usually around 76 ft-lbs).
  • Pump the brake pedal several times to ensure proper seat of the new pads and to build brake pressure.
