Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Oil filter wrench, clean rag or paper towels, drain pan.
  • Ensure the engine is cool before starting.
  • Disconnect the battery for safety if preferred.
2. Remove the Oil Filter
  1. Place a drain pan under the oil filter to catch any oil that may spill.
  2. Use the oil filter wrench to carefully unscrew the oil filter clockwise.
  3. Allow excess oil to drain into the pan.
3. Inspect the Oil Filter
  1. Examine the rubber O-ring on the old oil filter for cracks or wear.
  2. Inspect the oil filter mounting surface on the engine for any debris or scratches.
  3. Clean the surface with a rag to ensure a proper seal for the new filter.
4. Install the New Oil Filter
  1. Apply a thin layer of fresh engine oil to the rubber O-ring of the new oil filter.
  2. Position the new oil filter onto the mounting surface and hand-tighten it until snug.
  3. Use the oil filter wrench to tighten the filter an additional 3/4 turn (do not over-tighten).
5. Refill Engine Oil
  1. If any oil was lost during the process, refill the engine oil using the recommended oil type and amount.
  2. Check the oil level with the dipstick and add oil as necessary.
6. Final Check
  1. Start the engine and run it for a few minutes.
  2. Inspect the area around the oil filter for any signs of leakage.
  3. Turn off the engine and recheck the oil level, adding oil if necessary.
