Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Allow the engine to cool completely before beginning work.
2. Remove Dashboard Components
  • Remove the lower dashboard panel on the passenger side using a socket set.
  • Disconnect any electrical connectors for the airbag and other components.
  • Remove the upper dashboard panel (if necessary) to access the heater core.
3. Remove the Heater Core
  • Locate the heater core access cover; unbolt and remove it.
  • Disconnect the heater core hoses from the engine bay side. Use pliers to loosen hose clamps.
  • Carefully pull the heater core out from the dashboard.
4. Install the New Heater Core
  • Insert the new heater core into the housing, ensuring it fits snugly.
  • Reconnect the heater core hoses and secure them with clamps.
  • Reinstall the heater core access cover and bolt it in place.
5. Reassemble Dashboard Components
  • Reconnect any electrical connectors removed during disassembly.
  • Reinstall the lower dashboard panel.
  • If the upper dashboard panel was removed, reinstall it as well.
6. Refill Coolant and Test
  • Refill the cooling system with the appropriate coolant type (Toyota Genuine Long Life Coolant).
  • Bleed the cooling system to remove air pockets.
  • Reconnect the battery and start the engine, monitoring for leaks and checking heater function.
