Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to ensure safety.
  • Relieve fuel system pressure by removing the fuel pump fuse and starting the engine until it stalls.
2. Remove Fuel Injectors
  1. Remove Engine Cover:

    • Use a socket set to remove bolts securing the engine cover.
    • Carefully lift and set the cover aside.
  2. Disconnect Fuel Lines:

    • Use a line wrench to carefully disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel rail.
    • Have a rag handy to catch any residual fuel.
  3. Unplug Electrical Connectors:

    • Disconnect the electrical connectors from each fuel injector by carefully pressing the release tabs.
  4. Remove Fuel Rail:

    • Remove the bolts securing the fuel rail to the intake manifold.
    • Gently pull the fuel rail away from the manifold, releasing the injectors.
  5. Extract Injectors:

    • Carefully pull the injectors out of the fuel rail. Be cautious of the O-rings – they may stick.
3. Clean Fuel Injectors
  1. Ultrasonic Cleaning (Recommended):

    • Place injectors in an ultrasonic cleaner with a suitable fuel injector cleaning solution.
    • Run the cleaner according to the manufacturer's instructions (typically 15-30 minutes).
  2. Manual Cleaning (Alternative):

    • Use a cleaning solvent and a brush to clean the injector nozzles.
    • Avoid damaging the injector components.
4. Reassemble and Test
  1. Reinstall Injectors:

    • Apply a small amount of engine oil to new O-rings and install the injectors back into the fuel rail.
    • Ensure they are seated properly.
  2. Reattach Fuel Rail:

    • Position the fuel rail with injectors back onto the intake manifold.
    • Secure with bolts to the manufacturer’s torque specifications.
  3. Reconnect Electrical Connectors and Fuel Lines:

    • Plug in electrical connectors to the injectors.
    • Reconnect the fuel lines using a line wrench, ensuring a tight fit.
  4. Reconnect Battery:

    • Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
  5. Check for Leaks and Test:

    • Turn the ignition to the "ON" position for a few seconds to prime the fuel system.
    • Check for any fuel leaks around the injectors and lines.
