Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Oil filter wrench
    • Socket set
    • Oil catch pan
    • Funnel
    • Torque wrench
    • Rags or paper towels
  • Parts Required:
    • Engine oil (5W-20 or as specified in the owner's manual)
    • New oil filter
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Ensure the engine is cool before starting.
    • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
2. Drain Old Oil
  1. Open the hood and remove the oil fill cap to allow oil to drain more easily.
  2. Position the oil catch pan under the oil pan.
  3. Using the socket set, remove the drain plug from the oil pan and allow the old oil to completely drain into the catch pan.
  4. After draining, replace the drain plug and tighten it to the specified torque (typically 27 ft-lbs).
3. Replace Oil Filter
  1. Use the oil filter wrench to remove the old oil filter. Be cautious as some oil may spill out.
  2. Before installing the new oil filter, apply a small amount of new oil to the rubber gasket of the new filter.
  3. Install the new oil filter by hand until snug, then tighten it an additional 3/4 turn.
4. Add New Oil
  1. Using a funnel, pour the new engine oil into the oil fill cap. The 2012-2017 Toyota Camry typically requires about 4.5 to 5 quarts of oil, but check the owner's manual for the exact capacity.
  2. Replace the oil fill cap securely.
5. Check Oil Level
  1. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to circulate the new oil.
  2. Turn off the engine and wait a minute, then check the oil level using the dipstick. Add oil if necessary to reach the correct level.
