Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, wrench set, OBD-II scanner.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to ensure safety.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle from the designated lift points.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands for safety.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Use a socket set to remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel that corresponds to the leaking shock.
4. Remove Old Shock Absorber
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench.
  • Locate the upper and lower mounting bolts for the shock absorber.
  • Use the socket set to remove the lower bolt while supporting the shock.
  • Remove the upper bolt using the socket set or wrench (may require access from the trunk or under the rear seat).
  • Carefully pull the shock absorber out of its mount.
5. Install New Shock Absorber
  • Parts Required: New shock absorbers (ensure they are the correct type for the Model S).
  • Align the new shock absorber in the mounting locations.
  • Insert and hand-tighten the upper bolt first, followed by the lower bolt.
  • Torque both bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications (consult repair manual for specific torque values).
6. Reinstall Wheel and Lower Vehicle
  • Reattach the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle carefully off the jack stands using the jack.
  • Torque the lug nuts to the specified value.
7. Reconnect Battery
  • Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
