Solution
1. Preparation
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked in a safe, well-ventilated area.
  • Disconnect the negative terminal of the 12V battery to avoid any electrical shorts during inspection.
2. Inspect and Replace 12V Battery
  • Tools Required: Socket set, multimeter
  • Remove the cover from the 12V battery compartment.
  • Use the multimeter to measure voltage. If it is below 12.4V, consider replacing the battery.
  • Disconnect the positive terminal, followed by the negative terminal of the battery.
  • Remove the old 12V battery from the compartment and replace it with a new one.
  • Reconnect the positive terminal first, followed by the negative terminal. Ensure connections are tight.
  • Replace the cover securely.
3. Check for Parasitic Draw
  • Tools Required: Multimeter in ammeter mode
  • Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
  • With the vehicle off, disconnect the negative terminal again.
  • Connect the multimeter in series between the negative terminal and the battery post.
  • Check the reading. A draw over 50 mA indicates a parasitic issue.
  • Systematically remove fuses to identify which circuit is causing excessive draw.
4. Update Vehicle Software
  • Tools Required: Tesla mobile app or vehicle touchscreen
  • Ensure that the vehicle software is up to date to prevent bugs that could cause battery drain.
  • If not updated, connect the vehicle to Wi-Fi and initiate the software update via the touchscreen.
