Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent any electrical issues during the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and use jack stands for safety if lifting the vehicle.
2. Remove the Steering Rack
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, steering wheel puller, fluid catch pan.
  • Remove the front wheels for easier access to the steering components.
  • Disconnect the steering shaft from the steering rack using a socket set.
  • Detach any electrical connections to the steering rack.
  • Unbolt the steering rack from its mounting points using the socket set.
  • Carefully slide the steering rack out of its housing, allowing any residual fluid to drain into the catch pan.
3. Inspect and Replace Seals
  • Examine the steering rack seals for wear or damage.
  • If seals are damaged, replace them with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts.
  • Clean the steering rack thoroughly before reassembly.
4. Reinstall the Steering Rack
  • Slide the new or repaired steering rack back into position.
  • Reattach the steering rack to its mounting points and torque to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Reconnect the steering shaft and any electrical connectors.
  • Reinstall the front wheels and lower the vehicle.
5. Refill and Bleed the Steering System
  • Refill the power steering fluid reservoir with the recommended fluid type.
  • Start the vehicle and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to bleed any air from the system.
  • Check for leaks around the steering rack and hoses.
