Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake pad spreader, anti-seize lubricant, clean rags
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the vehicle from any power source and ensure the vehicle is in "Park" mode.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts on the wheels where brake pads will be replaced.
  • Lift the vehicle using a jack and securely place jack stands under the vehicle.
  • Remove the loosened lug nuts and take off the wheel.
3. Remove Old Brake Pads
  • Locate the brake caliper and remove the bolts securing it using the appropriate socket.
  • Carefully slide the caliper off the rotor and suspend it using a bungee cord to avoid straining the brake line.
  • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket. Note the arrangement for reinstallation.
4. Compress the Caliper Piston
  • Use a brake pad spreader or C-clamp to compress the caliper piston back into the caliper housing. This allows space for the new, thicker brake pads.
  • Ensure the brake fluid reservoir cap is loosened to prevent pressure buildup.
5. Install New Brake Pads
  • Apply anti-seize lubricant on the back of the new brake pads to minimize noise and ensure smooth operation.
  • Place the new brake pads into the caliper bracket in the same orientation as the old ones.
  • Reinstall the caliper over the new brake pads and secure it with the previously removed bolts. Torque the bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
6. Reassemble and Lower the Vehicle
  • Reattach the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and remove the jack.
  • Torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications in a crisscross pattern.
7. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the vehicle to power if necessary and check the brake fluid level, topping off if needed.
  • Test the brake pedal to ensure proper feel before taking the vehicle for a drive.
