Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the repair.
  • Disconnect the battery negative terminal to ensure safety while working on the fuel system.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and use wheel chocks for added safety.
2. Remove the Fuel Pump
  • Tools Required: Socket set, flathead screwdriver, fuel line disconnect tool.
  • Relieve fuel system pressure by removing the fuel pump relay and starting the engine until it stalls.
  • Disconnect the fuel lines from the pump assembly using the fuel line disconnect tool. Have a rag ready to catch any fuel that may spill.
  • Remove the access panel under the rear seat or trunk to access the fuel pump assembly.
  • Unscrew and remove the retaining ring of the fuel pump assembly using a socket or flathead screwdriver.
  • Carefully lift the fuel pump assembly out of the tank, ensuring not to damage any components.
3. Inspect and Replace
  • Inspect the fuel pump for any visible damage or wear.
  • If Replacement is Needed:
    • Remove the old fuel pump from the assembly by disconnecting the electrical connector and any retaining clips.
    • Install the new fuel pump into the assembly, ensuring all clips and connectors are secure.
    • Replace the fuel filter if applicable.
4. Reinstall the Fuel Pump Assembly
  • Lower the fuel pump assembly back into the tank and secure it with the retaining ring.
  • Reconnect the fuel lines to the assembly, ensuring they are properly seated.
  • Reinstall the access panel and any components removed during disassembly.
5. Reconnect Battery and Test
  • Reconnect the battery negative terminal.
  • Reinstall the fuel pump relay and turn the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine to prime the fuel system.
  • Check for leaks around the fuel lines and pump assembly.
  • Start the vehicle and monitor for proper operation.
