Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, spark plug socket, ratchet, dielectric grease, and a clean cloth.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is cool.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent any electrical shorts.
2. Remove Engine Cover
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Locate the fasteners securing the engine cover.
    2. Use the appropriate socket to remove the fasteners.
    3. Lift off the engine cover carefully and set it aside.
3. Remove Ignition Coils
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Identify the ignition coil connectors for each spark plug.
    2. Disconnect the electrical connectors by pressing the release tab and pulling straight out.
    3. Remove the bolts securing the ignition coils using the socket set.
    4. Carefully lift out each ignition coil from the spark plug well.
4. Remove Old Spark Plugs
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Use the spark plug socket to carefully unscrew each spark plug from the cylinder head.
    2. Inspect the removed spark plugs for wear patterns.
    3. Clean the spark plug wells with a clean cloth to remove any debris.
5. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the threads of the new spark plugs to prevent seizing.
    2. Hand-tighten each new spark plug into the cylinder head.
    3. Use the torque wrench to tighten each spark plug to the manufacturer-specified torque (usually around 15-20 ft-lbs).
6. Reinstall Ignition Coils
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Place each ignition coil back into its respective position over the new spark plugs.
    2. Secure the ignition coils with bolts and reconnect the electrical connectors ensuring they click in place.
7. Reattach Engine Cover
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Position the engine cover back onto the engine.
    2. Reinstall all fasteners and tighten them to secure the cover.
8. Reconnect Battery
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal and ensure it is tight.
