Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and safety equipment.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

Tools Required:

  • OBD-II scanner
  • Socket set
  • Torque wrench
  • Multimeter
  • Oil catch pan
2. Inspect and Change Engine Oil
  • Drain the engine oil using the oil catch pan.
  • Replace the oil filter.
  • Refill with manufacturer-recommended engine oil to the proper level.
3. Replace VVT Solenoid
  • Locate the VVT solenoid; it is usually mounted on the engine near the camshaft.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid.
  • Remove the mounting bolts using a socket set.
  • Install the new solenoid in reverse order and torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.
4. Check and Adjust Timing
  • Remove any components obstructing access to the timing chain/belt.
  • Inspect for proper alignment as per the manufacturer’s timing specifications.
  • If misaligned, adjust the timing chain/belt accordingly.
5. Reconnect Battery and Clear Codes
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Use the OBD-II scanner to clear the P0021 code and any other related codes.
