Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and is in the "Park" position.
  • Disconnect the vehicle's battery to avoid any electrical issues during the repair.
2. Inspect and Replace the Trunk Release Button
  • Tools Required: Screwdriver set, trim removal tool
  • Carefully remove the trim panel surrounding the trunk release button using the trim removal tool.
  • Disconnect the wiring harness from the back of the trunk release button.
  • Inspect the button for damage. If damaged, replace it with a new button by connecting the wiring harness to the new button and securing it back into place.
  • Reinstall the trim panel by aligning it properly and pressing it back into place.
3. Check and Replace Key Fob Battery
  • Tools Required: Small flathead screwdriver
  • Open the key fob using the flathead screwdriver to access the battery compartment.
  • Remove the old battery and replace it with a new one (typically CR2032).
  • Reassemble the key fob and test its functionality.
4. Inspect Wiring and Connections
  • Tools Required: Multimeter
  • Visually inspect the wiring harness for frays or disconnections.
  • Use a multimeter to check for continuity in the wiring leading to the trunk release mechanism.
  • If any wiring is damaged, repair or replace the affected sections.
5. Test the Trunk Latch Mechanism
  • Tools Required: None
  • Manually operate the trunk latch to ensure it moves freely and does not have obstructions.
  • Lubricate the latch mechanism with a silicone spray if necessary.
  • Reconnect the battery and test the trunk release button and key fob functionality again.
