Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and materials: socket set, jack and jack stands, power steering fluid, and safety glasses.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the engine is off.
2. Inspect and Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and check the fluid level against the dipstick or markings.
  • If low, add the recommended type of power steering fluid until it reaches the proper level.
  • Replace the cap securely.
3. Replace Power Steering Pump (if defective)
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical issues.
  • Remove the drive belt from the power steering pump pulley using a socket set.
  • Disconnect the power steering lines from the pump; prepare to catch any leaking fluid.
  • Unbolt and remove the power steering pump from its bracket.
  • Install the new power steering pump by reversing the removal steps.
  • Reconnect the power steering lines and ensure they are tight.
  • Reinstall the drive belt, ensuring proper alignment.
4. Inspect and Replace Steering Components (if worn)
  • Raise the front of the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Check the tie rods and ball joints for play by manually moving them.
  • If any parts are worn or damaged, remove them using a socket set.
  • Install new tie rods and ball joints, making sure to torque them to manufacturer specifications.
  • Lower the vehicle and perform a wheel alignment if necessary.
