Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather Tools:
    • Socket set
    • Torque wrench
    • Power steering fluid
    • Steering rack removal tool (if necessary)
    • Jack and jack stands
  • Safety Warning: Disconnect the battery before starting any work on electrical systems.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front of the vehicle.
  • Secure with jack stands to ensure stability while working.
3. Remove the Wheels
  • Remove the lug nuts using a socket wrench.
  • Take off the front wheels to access the steering components.
4. Disconnect the Steering Rack
  • Remove any covers protecting the steering rack.
  • Detach the tie rod ends from the steering rack using a wrench or socket set.
  • Disconnect the power steering lines from the rack, ensuring to have a drain pan ready for any fluid spillage.
  • Remove the bolts securing the steering rack to the subframe using a socket wrench.
5. Remove the Steering Rack
  • Carefully slide the steering rack out from the vehicle, taking care not to damage any surrounding components.
6. Install New Steering Rack
  • Position the new steering rack into place where the old one was located.
  • Secure it to the subframe with the bolts removed earlier. Torque bolts to manufacturer specifications.
  • Reconnect the power steering lines to the new rack and tighten securely.
  • Reattach the tie rod ends and ensure they are properly torqued.
7. Reattach the Wheels
  • Place the wheels back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and fully tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque.
8. Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Fill the power steering reservoir with the appropriate type of fluid.
  • Start the vehicle and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to purge air from the system.
