Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the replacement.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and secure it with wheel chocks.
2. Remove the Old Master Cylinder
  • Tools Required: Socket set, wrench set, brake line wrench
  • Remove the brake fluid reservoir cap and siphon out the brake fluid.
  • Unbolt the master cylinder from the brake booster using a socket.
  • Disconnect the brake lines using a brake line wrench to avoid stripping the fittings.
  • Carefully remove the master cylinder from the vehicle.
3. Install the New Master Cylinder
  • Tools Required: Torque wrench
  • Place the new master cylinder onto the brake booster.
  • Reconnect the brake lines securely, ensuring they are correctly oriented.
  • Torque the master cylinder bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 15-20 ft-lbs).
  • Refill the brake fluid reservoir with the appropriate DOT fluid.
4. Bleed the Brake System
  • Tools Required: Brake bleeder kit or helper
  • Starting with the wheel farthest from the master cylinder, bleed the brakes by loosening the bleeder screw and having a helper pump the brake pedal.
  • Continue until clear fluid without bubbles flows out.
  • Repeat for each wheel in order: Right Rear, Left Rear, Right Front, Left Front.
  • Check the brake pedal feel and top off the brake fluid if necessary.
