Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the parking brake is engaged.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a hydraulic jack to lift the rear of the vehicle.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands to ensure safety.
3. Remove the Drive Shaft
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench
  • Locate the U-joint at both ends of the drive shaft.
  • Use the socket set to remove the bolts securing the drive shaft to the U-joint.
  • Carefully slide the drive shaft off the U-joint and set it aside.
4. Inspect and Replace U-joint
  • Examine the U-joint for play or damage.
  • If replacement is needed:
    • Use the socket set to remove the retaining clips.
    • Pull the U-joint out of the yoke.
    • Insert the new U-joint and secure it with retaining clips.
    • Ensure it rotates freely without excessive resistance.
5. Reinstall Drive Shaft
  • Align the drive shaft with the U-joint.
  • Secure the drive shaft back in place using the original bolts.
  • Torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications (typically around 15-20 ft-lbs, but check the service manual for exact values).
6. Lower the Vehicle
  • Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle safely back to the ground.
