Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools: manifold gauge set, refrigerant, socket set, ratchet, cabin air filter, and safety glasses.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
2. Check Refrigerant Level
  • Connect the low and high-pressure sides of the manifold gauge to the AC system service ports.
  • Start the engine and turn the AC to maximum cool.
  • Read the pressure on the gauges. Compare with manufacturer specifications to determine if refrigerant is low.
  • If low, proceed to recharge.
3. Recharge the AC System
  • Locate the correct refrigerant type (usually R-134a for older models or R-1234yf for newer).
  • Attach the refrigerant can to the manifold gauge set.
  • Open the low-pressure valve and allow refrigerant to flow into the system until proper pressure is achieved.
  • Disconnect the manifold gauge and check for leaks with soapy water around connections.
4. Inspect and Replace Cabin Air Filter
  • Locate the cabin air filter access panel (usually behind the glove box).
  • Remove the panel and extract the old cabin air filter.
  • Inspect for dirt and replace with a new filter if necessary.
  • Reassemble the access panel.
5. Check and Repair AC Compressor
  • If the compressor is not engaging, check the electrical connections and fuses.
  • If damaged, replace the AC compressor:
    • Disconnect the battery.
    • Remove the serpentine belt from the compressor.
    • Unbolt the compressor from its mounting and remove the refrigerant lines (ensure proper recovery of refrigerant).
    • Install the new compressor and reconnect refrigerant lines.
    • Reattach the serpentine belt and reconnect the battery.
