Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal for safety.
2. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Fluid
  • Tools Required: Funnel, fluid container
  • Check the power steering fluid reservoir. If low, top off with the manufacturer-recommended fluid.
  • If the fluid is dirty or has a burnt smell, perform a fluid flush and replace with new fluid.
3. Inspect CV Joints and Replace if Necessary
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, socket set
  • Lift the front of the vehicle and secure with jack stands.
  • Remove the wheel to access the CV joint.
  • Inspect the CV boot for tears or leaks. If damaged, replace the CV joint.
    • Remove the axle nut and disconnect the joint from the hub.
    • Install the new CV joint, ensuring proper alignment and torque the axle nut to the manufacturer's specifications.
4. Inspect and Replace Wheel Bearings if Necessary
  • Tools Required: Bearing puller, socket set
  • With the wheel removed, check the wheel bearing for play by wiggling the wheel.
  • If there is excessive play or noise, remove the bearing using a bearing puller.
  • Install the new wheel bearing and ensure it's properly seated and lubricated.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reattach the wheel and lower the vehicle.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Test drive the vehicle to ensure the grinding noise has been resolved.
