Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Socket set
    • Wrench set
    • Torque wrench
    • Grease gun (if applicable)
    • Screwdriver
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely lifted before starting repairs.
2. Remove the Driveshaft
  1. Disconnect Battery: Disconnect the negative battery terminal to avoid electrical issues.
  2. Remove Bolts: Use the socket set to remove the bolts securing the driveshaft to the rear differential and the transmission.
  3. Lower Driveshaft: Carefully lower the driveshaft, ensuring not to damage any surrounding components.
3. Replace U-Joint
  1. Remove Old U-Joint: Using a U-joint removal tool, press out the old U-joint from the driveshaft yoke.
  2. Install New U-Joint: Align the new U-joint with the yoke and press it in using the U-joint tool until fully seated.
  3. Secure U-Joint: Install retaining clips or snap rings as required to secure the U-joint in place.
4. Reinstall Driveshaft
  1. Align Driveshaft: Position the driveshaft back into place, ensuring alignment with the differential and transmission.
  2. Torque Bolts: Reinstall and torque the bolts to manufacturer specifications, typically around 15-30 ft-lbs (consult service manual for exact values).
5. Lubricate (if applicable)
  • Grease U-Joint: Use a grease gun to apply grease into the U-joint fittings until grease begins to ooze out of the seals.
