Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, drain pan, socket set, torque wrench, OBD-II scanner, UV dye (if needed).
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and safely elevated with jack stands.
  • Wear protective gloves and safety glasses.
2. Drain Transmission Fluid
  • Place a drain pan under the transmission pan.
  • Remove the transmission pan bolts using a socket set, and carefully lower the pan to allow fluid to drain completely.
  • Note: Be cautious of any remaining fluid that may spill.
3. Inspect and Replace Gasket
  • Inspect the old transmission pan gasket for wear or damage. If it appears compromised, it must be replaced.
  • Clean the transmission pan and the mating surface on the transmission case using a gasket scraper and solvent to remove old gasket material.
4. Reinstall Transmission Pan
  • Place a new gasket onto the transmission pan.
  • Position the pan back onto the transmission case and hand-tighten the bolts.
  • Use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to the manufacturer’s specified torque (usually around 8-10 ft-lbs, but refer to the service manual for exact specifications).
5. Check Cooler Lines
  • Inspect the transmission cooler lines for any leaks. If damaged, replace the lines.
  • Ensure that all fittings are secure and do not show signs of wear.
6. Refill Transmission Fluid
  • Remove the dipstick and use a funnel to refill the transmission with the appropriate type and amount of fluid as specified in the owner’s manual.
  • Start the engine and allow it to run for a few minutes, then shift through all gears to circulate the fluid.
