Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the battery to avoid electrical issues while working on the car.
  • Allow the engine to cool completely before starting work.
2. Drain Coolant
  • Place a drain pan under the radiator.
  • Remove the radiator cap and drain the coolant into the pan by opening the drain valve at the bottom of the radiator.
  • Dispose of the coolant properly.
3. Remove Heater Core
  • Access the heater core by removing the dashboard panel that houses the HVAC controls and vents.
  • Disconnect the heater hoses from the engine compartment; use pliers to loosen any clamps.
  • Unscrew and remove any mounting bolts for the heater core cover.
  • Carefully pull the heater core out of the housing.
4. Clean or Replace Heater Core
  • If cleaning, use a mixture of water and vinegar to flush out the core. Attach a garden hose to one end and run water through until it flows clear.
  • If replacing, install a new heater core in the reverse order of removal.
5. Reassemble and Refill Coolant
  • Reinstall the heater core cover and dashboard components.
  • Reattach the heater hoses securely and ensure clamps are tightened.
  • Refill the cooling system with the appropriate coolant mixture.
  • Bleed the cooling system to remove any air pockets.
