Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, C-clamp or brake caliper tool, bungee cord or rope.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Wear safety glasses and gloves for protection.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use the lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts on the wheel where the brake pads will be replaced.
  • Lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the wheel to expose the brake assembly.
3. Remove the Brake Caliper
  • Locate the caliper mounting bolts and use a socket set to remove them.
  • Carefully slide the caliper off the rotor and support it using a bungee cord or rope to avoid straining the brake line.
  • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
4. Inspect and Prepare Components
  • Inspect the rotor for any damage, such as grooves or excessive wear.
  • If needed, resurface or replace the rotor.
  • Clean the caliper bracket and rotor surface using brake cleaner to remove any dust or debris.
5. Install New Brake Pads
  • Apply a thin layer of brake grease to the backing of the new brake pads to reduce noise.
  • Insert the new brake pads into the caliper bracket.
  • Compress the caliper piston using a C-clamp or brake caliper tool to allow for proper clearance for the new pads.
6. Reattach the Brake Caliper
  • Position the caliper over the new brake pads and slide it into place.
  • Torque the caliper mounting bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 20-30 ft-lbs, but check the specific vehicle manual).
  • Reinstall the wheel and torque the lug nuts to the specified torque setting (usually around 75-100 ft-lbs).
7. Lower the Vehicle
  • Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
8. Final Checks
  • Pump the brake pedal a few times to seat the brake pads against the rotors.
  • Check the brake fluid level and top off if necessary.
