Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to avoid electrical hazards.
2. Remove the Steering Rack
  • Tools Required: Socket set, wrench set, jack and jack stands, steering wheel puller (if necessary).
  • Raise the front of the vehicle using a jack and secure with jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels to gain access to the steering components.
  • Disconnect the steering shaft from the steering rack (may require a puller).
  • Remove the bolts securing the steering rack to the subframe.
  • Disconnect the power steering lines from the steering rack (be prepared for fluid spillage).
3. Inspect and Replace Seals
  • Carefully inspect the steering rack seals for wear or damage.
  • If necessary, replace the seals with a compatible seal kit.
  • Clean the steering rack and surrounding areas to remove any debris.
4. Reinstall the Steering Rack
  • Position the new or repaired steering rack into place.
  • Secure the steering rack to the subframe with the previously removed bolts, torque to manufacturer specifications.
  • Reconnect the power steering lines, ensuring they are tightened to prevent leaks.
  • Reconnect the steering shaft to the steering rack and ensure proper alignment.
5. Fill and Bleed the Power Steering System
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Fill the power steering reservoir with the appropriate fluid (refer to the owner’s manual for specifications).
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to purge air from the system.
  • Check fluid levels and top off if necessary.
