Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather Tools and Materials:
    • Socket set
    • Screwdrivers (flathead and Phillips)
    • Throttle body cleaner
    • Soft cloth or rag
    • Protective gloves and safety goggles
  • Safety Warning: Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery before starting work to prevent electrical short circuits.
2. Access the Throttle Body
  • Remove the Engine Cover:
    • Use the appropriate socket to remove bolts securing the engine cover.
    • Carefully lift off the cover and set it aside.
  • Disconnect the Air Intake Hose:
    • Loosen the clamp on the air intake hose connected to the throttle body using a screwdriver.
    • Carefully pull the hose off the throttle body.
3. Remove the Throttle Body
  • Disconnect Electrical Connectors:
    • Unplug the electrical connector(s) attached to the throttle body.
  • Unbolt the Throttle Body:
    • Use the socket set to remove the bolts securing the throttle body to the intake manifold.
    • Gently pull the throttle body away from the manifold.
4. Clean the Throttle Body
  • Apply Throttle Body Cleaner:
    • Spray throttle body cleaner onto the throttle plate and inside the throttle body.
    • Use a soft cloth or rag to wipe away carbon buildup and grime.
  • Clean Throttle Plate:
    • Open the throttle plate by hand to access the inner surfaces and ensure thorough cleaning.
5. Reinstall the Throttle Body
  • Position the Throttle Body:
    • Align the throttle body back onto the intake manifold and hand-tighten the bolts initially.
  • Torque the Bolts:
    • Use a torque wrench to tighten the throttle body bolts to the manufacturer’s specified torque (usually around 89-106 in-lbs).
  • Reconnect Electrical Connectors:
    • Plug back in any electrical connectors that were disconnected.
  • Reconnect the Air Intake Hose:
    • Slide the air intake hose back onto the throttle body and secure it with the clamp.
6. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the Engine Cover:
    • Place the engine cover back onto the engine and secure it with the bolts.
  • Reconnect Battery:
    • Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
