Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Hydraulic jack, jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, transmission fluid pump, fluid catch pan, clean rags.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and the engine is off. Allow the transmission to cool down if it has been running.
2. Drain Transmission Fluid
  • Place a fluid catch pan under the transmission pan.
  • Remove the transmission pan bolts using a socket wrench.
  • Carefully lower the pan and allow the old fluid to drain completely into the catch pan.
3. Remove Old Filter
  • Once the pan is removed, locate the transmission filter. It is usually secured with screws or clips.
  • Remove the screws or clips holding the filter in place and gently pull the filter downwards to detach it from the transmission.
4. Install New Filter
  • Take the new transmission filter and align it with the mounting points.
  • Secure the new filter in place with the screws or clips, ensuring it is snug but not overtightened to prevent damage.
5. Reinstall Transmission Pan
  • Clean the mating surfaces of the transmission and the pan thoroughly to remove any old gasket material.
  • Apply a new gasket or gasket maker as specified by the manufacturer.
  • Reattach the transmission pan and torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications (usually around 8-12 ft-lbs).
6. Refill Transmission Fluid
  • Use a fluid pump to refill the transmission with the appropriate type of transmission fluid as specified in the owner's manual.
  • Check the fluid level using the dipstick and add more fluid if necessary until it reaches the full mark.
