my Skoda Octavia's brake pedal feels spongy what can I do

1. Preparation

• Gather tools and components needed for repair.
• Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and secure it with wheel chocks.

2. Inspect and Replace Brake Fluid

• Tools Required: Brake fluid tester, appropriate brake fluid (DOT 4 recommended).
• Remove the master cylinder cap and check the fluid condition.
• If the fluid is dark or contaminated, use a syringe to extract old fluid from the reservoir.
• Refill with fresh brake fluid to the correct level.

3. Bleed the Brake System

• Tools Required: Brake bleeder kit, wrench for bleeder screws, clear tubing.
• Start at the brake furthest from the master cylinder (usually the rear passenger side).
• Attach the clear tubing to the bleeder screw and place the other end in a container.
• Have an assistant pump the brake pedal several times and hold it down.
• Open the bleeder screw to allow fluid and air to escape, then close it before your assistant releases the pedal.
• Repeat this process for each brake, moving from the furthest to the closest to the master cylinder (rear passenger, rear driver, front passenger, front driver).
