Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and safety equipment.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is cool.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Check and Top Off Transmission Fluid
  • Locate the transmission dipstick or fill plug.
  • Remove the dipstick, wipe clean, and reinsert to check fluid level.
  • If low, add the manufacturer-specified transmission fluid through the dipstick tube or fill plug until it reaches the proper level.
3. Replace Transmission Filter (if applicable)
  • Raise the vehicle securely on jack stands.
  • Place a drain pan under the transmission pan.
  • Remove the transmission pan bolts using a socket set and carefully lower the pan.
  • Remove the old filter and install the new filter.
  • Clean the pan and replace the gasket before reinstalling the pan.
4. Test Transmission Solenoids
  • Locate the solenoid pack on the transmission.
  • Disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the solenoid pack.
  • Test each solenoid with a multimeter according to the manufacturer's specifications.
  • Replace any solenoids that do not meet specifications.
5. Reassemble and Refill Fluid
  • Reinstall the transmission pan and torque the bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes, then check the transmission fluid level again and add fluid as necessary.
