1. Preparation

• Ensure the engine is cool and disconnect the battery.
• Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, coolant catch pan.

2. Remove the Thermostat

• Locate the Thermostat: Find the thermostat housing, which is usually near the engine block connected to the upper radiator hose.
• Drain Coolant: Place the coolant catch pan under the radiator and drain a sufficient amount of coolant to prevent spills.
• Unbolt the Housing: Using the socket set, remove the bolts securing the thermostat housing. Keep track of the bolts for reinstallation.
• Remove the Housing: Gently pull the thermostat housing away from the engine block, ensuring the old gasket comes off with it.

3. Inspect and Replace the Thermostat

• Test the Old Thermostat: Submerge the thermostat in hot water to check if it opens at the specified temperature (usually around 87-92°C for most engines). If it does not open, it needs replacing.
• Install New Thermostat: Place the new thermostat into the housing, ensuring it is seated properly.
• Replace Gasket: Install a new gasket or use a gasket maker as required.

4. Reassemble and Refill Coolant
