Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, jack and jack stands, brake cleaner, C-clamp or brake caliper tool, gloves, safety glasses.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the ignition.
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the front or rear wheels (depending on which pads you are replacing) slightly while the vehicle is still on the ground.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the wheel by fully unscrewing the lug nuts and setting the wheel aside.
3. Remove the Brake Caliper
  • Locate the caliper bolts on the back of the brake caliper.
  • Using a socket, remove the caliper mounting bolts.
  • Carefully slide the caliper off the rotor and support it using a bungee cord or a piece of wire to avoid straining the brake line.
4. Remove Old Brake Pads
  • Gently slide the old brake pads out of their brackets.
  • Inspect the caliper for damage or debris. Clean if necessary.
5. Compress the Caliper Piston
  • Place a C-clamp or brake caliper tool over the caliper piston and the back of the caliper.
  • Slowly tighten the clamp to push the piston back into the caliper housing. This will create space for the new, thicker brake pads.
6. Install New Brake Pads
  • Apply brake grease to the back of the new brake pads to prevent squeaking.
  • Slide the new brake pads into the caliper bracket in the same position as the old ones.
  • Ensure they are properly seated.
7. Reinstall the Brake Caliper
  • Carefully position the caliper back over the new brake pads.
  • Reinsert and tighten the caliper bolts to the manufacturer's torque specifications (typically around 25-30 Nm; check specific manual).
8. Reattach the Wheel
  • Place the wheel back on the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and use a torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually 120-140 Nm).
9. Final Checks
  • Pump the brake pedal several times to ensure the brake pads are seated correctly and the brake fluid is back in the working range.
  • Check for any leaks around the caliper.
