Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues during the repair.

Tools Required:

  • Jack and jack stands
  • Socket set
  • Torque wrench
  • Pry bar
  • CV boot clamp tool (if replacing boots)
2. Remove Driveshaft
  • a. Lift the Vehicle:

    • Use a jack to lift the front of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • b. Remove Wheel:

    • Use a socket set to remove the lug nuts and take off the front wheel.
  • c. Detach Driveshaft:

    • Locate the bolts securing the driveshaft to the wheel hub and the transmission. Remove these bolts using the socket set.
  • d. Pull Driveshaft Out:

    • Carefully pull the driveshaft out from the hub and transmission. Use a pry bar if needed to gently coax it out.
3. Inspect and Replace Components
  • a. Inspect CV Joints:

    • Check the CV joints for wear or damage. If the boots are torn or the joints are worn, proceed to the next step.
  • b. Replace CV Joint or Boot:

    • If replacing the CV joint, remove the old joint by cutting any retaining rings and sliding it off the shaft.
    • Slide on the new joint, securing it with a new retaining ring.
    • If replacing a boot, remove the old boot, clean the joint, and apply new grease before installing the new boot and securing it with clamps.
4. Reinstall Driveshaft
  • a. Insert Driveshaft:

    • Align the driveshaft with the transmission output and hub, pushing it back into place.
  • b. Secure Bolts:

    • Reinstall the bolts that secure the driveshaft to both the transmission and wheel hub. Tighten to the manufacturer’s specified torque settings.
  • c. Reattach Wheel:

    • Place the wheel back on and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
5. Lower Vehicle
  • Use the jack to remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
