Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the repair.
  • Disconnect the vehicle battery to ensure safety while working on electrical components.
2. Remove Instrument Cluster
  • Tools Required: Socket set, trim removal tool.
  • Remove any trim pieces surrounding the instrument cluster using the trim removal tool.
  • Unbolt the instrument cluster using the socket set and carefully pull it out of the dashboard.
  • Disconnect the electrical connectors from the back of the instrument cluster.
3. Inspect and Replace Fuel Sender Unit
  • Tools Required: Wrench set, multimeter.
  • Locate the fuel sender unit, typically found in the fuel tank. This may require removing the rear seat or accessing the tank from underneath.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel sender unit.
  • Measure resistance across the sender unit terminals using the multimeter; compare it to the specifications in the service manual.
  • If the resistance is outside the specifications, replace the fuel sender unit.
  • To replace, unbolt the sender unit, remove it from the tank, and install the new unit in reverse order.
4. Reinstall Instrument Cluster
  • Reconnect the electrical connectors to the back of the instrument cluster.
  • Position the instrument cluster back into the dashboard and secure it with bolts.
  • Reattach any trim pieces that were removed.
5. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Start the vehicle and check if the fuel gauge operates correctly.
  • If necessary, reset any error codes using the OBD-II scanner.
