Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and materials:
    • Tools Required: Socket set, Ratchet, U-joint puller, Hammer, Grease gun, Torque wrench, Safety goggles, Gloves
    • Parts Required: Replacement U-joint
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues during the repair.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the rear of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Ensure the vehicle is stable before working underneath.
3. Remove the Driveshaft
  • Locate the driveshaft connecting to the rear differential and transmission.
  • Use a socket set to remove the bolts securing the driveshaft to the differential.
  • Carefully slide the driveshaft off the differential and the transmission. Support it to prevent it from falling.
4. Remove the Old U-joint
  • Place the driveshaft on a workbench for easier access.
  • Use a U-joint puller to remove the old U-joint from the driveshaft yoke.
    • Position the puller over the U-joint and tighten it until the U-joint is pushed out.
  • If necessary, use a hammer to tap the U-joint out while supporting the opposite side.
5. Install the New U-joint
  • Apply a small amount of grease to the new U-joint.
  • Position the new U-joint into the driveshaft yoke and use the U-joint puller to press it into place.
  • Ensure that the U-joint is properly seated and that the cross is perpendicular to the driveshaft.
6. Reinstall the Driveshaft
  • Align the driveshaft back onto the transmission and differential.
  • Secure it with the bolts removed earlier, ensuring they are tightened to the manufacturer’s torque specifications.
7. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground.
  • Check the U-joint for any abnormal movement by hand.
